Should You Blog On Squarespace?

Is Squarespace a good fit for bloggers? Hint: the answer is yes.

If you’ve been toying around with the idea of starting a blog and wondering where you should build it, look no further!

5 Reasons Squarespace is great for blogging.

  1. It is great for SEO

  2. There are many ways to monetize

  3. It is SO easy to use

  4. It’s Affordable

  5. Simple, all-in-one platform

1.) Squarespace is great for SEO

To be completely transparent, this has been a topic of controversy. To sum up the dissension, Wordpress users declare that it is superior for SEO because of the plugins. But, ahrefs did a study trying to determine whether Wordpress or Squarespace was better for SEO. The results were inconclusive because there are so many factors at play. One of which being that Wordpress users are often much more technical and have more knowledge about things like SEO best practices.  They concluded that not one platform is better than the other for SEO. All this to say, if you are equipped with the right knowledge, you can most definitely rank your Squarespace website.

The argument for Squarespace over Wordpress then is the ease of which you can put SEO best practices to use. Squarespace makes it much easier than Wordpress to implement SEO.

  • In Wordpress you need multiple plugins to help you with SEO. In Squarespace it is all there, no need to piece together different plugins and do hours of research trying to figure out which plugins you need.

As easy as Squarespace makes it to implement SEO best practices, SEO is an inherently complicated thing and Google has over 200 ranking factors. If you want a Squarespace SEO checklist to help you optimize and monetize your website and blog, grab it here.

The only thing the checklist doesn’t go over is Schema. You can rank a website without it, but Schema will help Google better understand and index your content. To learn more about Schema, read this blog by SEMrush. To learn how to add it to your Squarespace site, check out this blog by Brian Curb.

2.) Squarespace is easy to use

Like I mentioned above, Squarespace is an incredibly user-friendly interface. Whereas with platforms like Wordpress, you could spend hours upon hours just trying to learn the platform instead of writing blogs and making money for your business. Squarespace allows you to prioritize the things that actually move the needle in your business. No getting bogged down by technical issues and complicated platforms.

Squarespace updates its platform and keeps things up to Google’s standards. When the internet went from http to https, Squarespace handled that for its users who simply had to toggle https on. While bloggers on other platforms had to scramble to figure out how to secure their site.

3.) There are many ways to monetize a Squarespace Blog

You can monetize your Squarespace blog any way you would monetize any other blog.

  1. Advertising. Squarespace doesn’t integrate directly with advertisers but you can set up a Google Adsense account to monetize your blog with ads. Learn how to integrate it here.  With ad blockers becoming more popular than ever, I think this way of monetizing your blog is going to become less common and more difficult to monetize. It is also possible to integrate other networks like Mediavine and Adthrive.

  2. Affiliate marketing. This is usually more profitable than Ads especially if you don’t have a huge amount of traffic. Ads can also slow your site which impacts SEO and can harm user experience which also negatively impacts SEO.

  3. Products like online courses or e-books. Build a course or write an e-book that relates to your niche. Then use your blogs to promote the product.

  4. Offering services. If you are a service provider, use your blog to drive traffic and promote your services. That’s what I do!

4.)Squarespace is affordable

Squarespace’s business plan is $23 per month. There are no hidden fees, it is just one lump sum every month. Compared to Wordpress where you might get billed for 5 separate things like hosting, domain, SSL certificate and some other random things you’re not even sure what they are.

5.) Squarespace is a simple, all-in-one platform.

As someone who is unorganized and gets overwhelmed by a million moving pieces, I love that Squarespace comes in one tidy package. If the idea of trying to piece together your website and do hours of research to figure out the platform, Squarespace is your solution.
