Best Squarespace Font Combinations 2023
The most swoon-worthy Squarespace font combos curated by a designer.
Picking a good font combination
Some fonts go together like peanut butter and jelly and some go together like ice cream & tuna if ya know what I mean 🤢. To avoid a “throw up in your mouth” font combination, keep one important thing in mind: complementary fonts contrast. You want to make sure your Heading font and your Paragraph font contrast one another to create interest and make it easy to skim headlines and read your copy.
There are a few ways to achieve contrast. Here are 3 simple ways I like to do so:
Pair a serif font with a sans serif font. This is one of my favorite ways to pair fonts. They flawlessly complement one another without having to put too much thought into it.
Differentiate the fonts with weight. The weight of a font is how thick the font is. I have noted the font weights in each of the combinations below. As you’ll see below, simply changing the weight of a font can change its feel completely.
Play with size. This method is taken for granted as it is basically written in to rule that your Heading 1 the largest font size. But, you can take this to the next level by taking it to the extremes. For example, an oversize heading font is bold and contrasts nicely with a small, delicate paragraph font. Just be sure that your fonts are still legible for good user experience.
As you will see below, each of these font combinations utilizes at least 2 of the contrast methods. Selecting a font combo doesn’t have to be hard, just swipe one of these combos below or use the contrast method to curate your own!
Font combo 01: Ivypresto Display & Work Sans
Ivypresto Display is a hella popular font right now. As you can probably tell, I use it on my website. It was just too elegant to pass up. I use weight 100 to achieve a delicate, editorial, and high-end feel. Work Sans contrasts nicely, bringing a more practical feel to the refined heading font.
02: Ivypresto Display & Pragmatica
Upping the weight to 500 on Ivypresto Display changes the feel completely. A heavier weight transforms the delicate heading, giving it a more stately feel. Combined with the sensible Pragmatica, this pairing is professional and put-together.
03: Moret & Helvetica Neue
Moret is fun. It offers some personality while maintaining professionalism. It has a touch of retro which is very trendy this year, yet it is simple enough to be a timeless choice for your brand. At weight 400, it pairs nicely with a lighter weight font. I combined it with a classic, Helvetica Neue, to balance it out and allow for easy reading.
04: Quiche Sans & Freight Macro Pro
Quiche Sans is at weight 500 & Freight Macro Pro is at 400. Quiche Sans is elegant and minimal. Freight Macro Pro brings the interest while still being easy to read.
05: Kepler Std Condensed Display & Freight Neo Pro
Kepler Std Condensed Display might be a mouthful but it is one of my favorite fonts on Squarespace. It is stately mixed with a little retro. At weight 500, it pairs nicely with sans serif, Freight Neo Pro, at weight 400.
06: Obviously Wide & Nudista Web
Obviously Wide (weight 500) is eye-catching. It isn’t for every brand but I think its big personality would lend itself well to a brand that embodies confidence, boldness, and modernity. I chose Nudista Web as its paragraph counterpart at weight 400. This technical type contrasts nicely with the higher kerning (the spacing between letters) in Obviously Wide.
